Hybrid Contemporary Windsor Bench
My goal for the Hybrid Windsor Bench was to create a piece that ventures beyond traditional Windsor forms. Sculpted wooden components are paired with clean, cool steel, creating a bench that is both visually engaging and inviting to the touch.
As with all new designs, the outcome remains something of a mystery until the piece is completed. I am very pleased with how this bench developed. The steel-supported back has a surprising flexibility, echoing the gentle give found in the floating backs of my Windsor chairs. The warmth of the wood contrasts nicely with the structural clarity of the steel, and this piece feels like the beginning of a larger family of related designs.
