High Work Stool

Make Tim Clark's High Work Stool in cherry (for the seat) and ash, maple or oak for the legs. This class will cover many chair making techniques and is a starting point for those interested in making Windsor style chairs.    We will rough out the seats and leg structure with the lathe, drill press, and bandsaw and then move to the shaving horse or bench vise for much of the time, where we'll be shaping those parts with a hand plane and spoke shave.  This high work stool is designed to be straddled or perched on. When straddled, at least one foot is on the floor for stability.   Students should come to the class with a very basic understanding of the lathe (using a roughing gouge), drill press, and bandsaw.  Check out some YouTube videos etc. We will do a training session at the beginning of class and again as we use each of the power tools. Safety first. "Live long, and prosper"

The High Work Stool is my proprietary design and therefore is not to be made as part of a students business.  A gift for family or yourself is appropriate but if made for sale, a design royalty fee is expected to be paid by the maker to the designer. I encourage students to take these skills and design your own work with what you have learned.  Then it will truly be your own.

Note: Due to the Ash Borer beetle that has killed most of the ash in this part of the country, we may need to substitute maple or oak for the ash. It will depend on what I can find.

From a High Work Stool Student- "I wanted to take a moment and thank you for the stool course. You are a great instructor with tremendous insight into woodworking. I Certainly learned aspects of woodworking that I have never used before."
